YSRCP Candidates Rush to File Nominations Under Police Protection Amid Political Tensions in Andhra Pradesh

By The Freedom Press

Andhra Pradesh, October 23: In a disturbing development during the ongoing local body election process in Andhra Pradesh, videos circulating on social media purportedly show YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) candidates rushing to nomination centres under police protection amid fears of confrontation with supporters of the ruling Telugu Desam Party (TDP).

One such incident was reported from Battalapalli in Sri Sathya Sai district, where YSRCP candidates reportedly arrived in a police vehicle and hurried towards the nomination centre to submit their papers. According to the information available, Circle Inspector Prabhakar assisted the candidates in reaching the centre.

The incident has intensified concerns over the safety of opposition candidates and their ability to participate freely in the electoral process. YSRCP has alleged that its candidates have faced intimidation, obstruction and attacks, with nomination papers reportedly snatched or torn at some locations. These allegations have added to tensions between the ruling TDP and the opposition party.

YSRCP president and former chief minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy has strongly objected to the reported incidents and called for immediate action against those responsible. The party has also sought measures to ensure that candidates can file their nominations without fear or interference.

The controversy has raised broader questions about election security, the role of law enforcement and the need to ensure a level playing field for all political parties. (eom)
