YS Jagan Accuses TDP-Led Government of ‘Nomination-Centre Rigging’ in Andhra Local Body Polls

Amaravati Oct 23, The Freedom Press: YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) president and former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has accused the ruling Telugu Desam Party (TDP)-led coalition of manipulating the nomination process for local body elections to prevent opposition candidates from contesting.
Jagan alleged that YSRCP candidates and party workers faced intimidation, attacks and obstruction at nomination centres in several parts of the state.
He accused Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu of resorting to what he termed “nomination-centre rigging” to gain an electoral advantage.
The YSRCP chief cited alleged irregularities in Punganur, Tirupati, Kadapa, Pulivendula, Rayachoti and Badvel, claiming that nomination papers were snatched or damaged and candidates were threatened.
He also questioned the role of the police and the State Election Commission, alleging that adequate measures had not been taken to ensure a fair electoral process.
Jagan further raised concerns over ward delimitation, reservation decisions, the short nomination window and the use of the existing voter list for the elections. (eom)
