Bengal: Kalyan Banerjee again targets Abhishek Banerjee for Trinamool’s ‘downfall’

Kolkata, July 14 (IANS) Trinamool Congress MP Kalyan Banerjee on Tuesday once again pointed his finger at party general secretary Abhishek Banerjee for the party’s downfall in Bengal politics.

He also put the party’s former political consultant agency in the same row and criticised it, and did not spare Abhishek’s aides either.

Kalyan also said that those who once benefited the most from Abhishek and the political consultant agency are now speaking against it.

He clarified that there are pro-rebel camp Trinamool Congress leaders in the party and said he was in a situation where he wanted to leave the party because of them.

It may be noted that Kalyan Banerjee did not join the rebellion that has arisen in the Trinamool after its defeat in the Assembly election.

He has always explained that he is with the original but minority Trinamool Congress faction led by Mamata Banerjee. But even in that situation, he did not stop criticising Abhishek Banerjee.

This time, he again pointed his finger at Abhishek’s office on Camac Street in central Kolkata. He did not spare Abhishek’s absconding executive assistant Sumit Roy, against whom a case has been filed at the Salbani police station.

According to Kalyan, those who used to talk to Sumit Roy on Camac Street, who used to talk a lot to run the organisation, are now being called by the police and told that they are connected to the Salbani case. They are being told that if they go too far, they will be put in jail.

Kalyan did not stop here. He further said that this has now become a police norm, with authorities saying either go to the rebel camp or face arrest.

He claimed that many leaders are facing this pressure because of Sumit, and pointed his finger at Abhishek’s office for all this, saying “Camac Street finished us off.”

Kalyan claimed that those who have joined the rebel but majority faction of Trinamool Congress today are the ones who have benefited the most from Abhishek and are the ones who brought the political consultant agency to the forefront.

He said they were with Abhishek and got everything from him, and that they brought the agency to the forefront.

Kalyan claimed that those who ‘benefited’ are now speaking out against Abhishek the most. He escalated his attack further by saying that if Sumit spoke twice a day, the rebels would think life had become blessed.

He added that when he criticised the agency, no one stood by him, and that the rebels had taken all the benefits from it, established themselves as leaders and created pressure by calling themselves Abhishek’s people. Today, he said, they are speaking against Abhishek.

Kalyan said that when he spoke out against the agency in 2022, these rebels had opposed him. The Sreerampur MP said he first spoke about it in 2022, and many of those who have become rebels today opposed him then.

He added that at that time, such a situation arose that if Didi was not by his side, he would have had to leave the party. Incidentally, Kalyan criticised Abhishek’s ‘Diamond Harbour Model’ in 2022. After that, posters were put up against the MP.

Abhishek’s followers burned Kalyan’s effigy in Bhabanipur of Kolkata, and protests were also held at Diamond Harbour.
