Bengaluru Nov 03: A woman was threatened at knifepoint during an attempted gold chain snatching on busy 100 Feet Road in Indiranagar, Bengaluru, in broad daylight.
The accused, identified as 40-year-old Prabhuraj, allegedly threatened to stab the woman if she refused to hand over her gold chain. When she resisted and raised an alarm, he allegedly restrained her while attempting to escape.
Alert passers-by intervened, overpowered the accused and handed him over to the police. The woman escaped unhurt.
The incident has raised concerns over the audacity of criminals who openly threaten people with weapons in busy public places. Such incidents highlight the need for stronger policing, effective surveillance and strict enforcement of the law to ensure public safety. Criminals and anti-social elements must not be allowed to take the law into their own hands or create fear among ordinary citizens.
Police should take stern action against those involved in such offences and ensure that exemplary legal action is taken against offenders to prevent similar incidents.
A case was registered under Section 309(6) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). After interrogation, the accused was produced before a magistrate and remanded to judicial custody.
