Tripura govt committed to holistic development, protection of lives and assets: CM Saha
Agartala, Aug 31 (IANS) Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha has said that, apart from focusing on the holistic development of the people, the state government is also committed to protecting the lives and assets of citizens.
Addressing a programme for the distribution of job offer letters and sewing machines, the Chief Minister noted on Sunday that, besides providing government jobs, the state government has also laid special emphasis on creating alternative avenues of employment.
He said that the state government is making special efforts to ensure the socio-economic development of women by empowering them and opening up avenues for self-reliance.
The Chief Minister added that joining a government job means dedicating oneself to the service of the people and noted that there is no alternative to honesty, dedication and perseverance in the discharge of such responsibilities.
He said that those engaged in fire and emergency services have to perform their duties while remaining constantly alert, like sentinels, to protect human lives and property.
The state government aims to make women self-reliant, CM Saha said, adding that women are being trained under the ‘Mukhyamantri Dakhyata Unnayan Prakalpa’ to provide them with alternative avenues for self-employment.
“After completing the training, the women are also being engaged in various self-employment activities and vocations,” he said.
During the 2026-27 financial year so far, as many as 2,130 women have been covered under the scheme, CM Saha added.
Sunday’s programme was jointly organised by the Fire and Emergency Services Department and the Directorate of Skill Development.
At the event, held at Muktadhara Auditorium in Agartala, the Chief Minister also virtually inaugurated a newly constructed fire station at Manu Bankul in South Tripura district.
The new fire station has been constructed at an investment of Rs 2.45 crore and is expected to further strengthen fire and emergency services in the area.
At the event, job offer letters for the post of driver were handed over to 16 persons on behalf of the Fire and Emergency Services Department.
Additionally, sewing machines were distributed to 180 women under the Mukhyamantri Dakhyata Unnayan Prakalpa to help them pursue self-employment and become economically self-reliant.
The Chief Minister symbolically handed over job offer letters to five beneficiaries and sewing machines to five women at the programme.
Chef Minister Saha said that fire stations are being set up across the state, while new and advanced equipment is also being procured for the department to ensure better and more efficient services to the people.
At present, 52 fire stations are functioning across Tripura.
New fire stations have also come up at Garji, Boxanagar and Ganganagar in Dhalai district, while five more fire stations would be added in different parts of the state.
Speaking at the event, Industries and Commerce Minister Santana Chakma said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has laid special emphasis on the ‘Vocal for Local’ initiative to make the country self-reliant in production and strengthen local enterprises.
She added that the Tripura government is also working towards making women self-reliant by associating them with various income-generating and self-employment activities.
Mayor of Agartala Municipal Corporation Dipak Majumder, and Secretary of the Industries and Commerce Department Kiran Gitte, among others, were present at the event.
