New Delhi, Aug 17 (IANS) Three Nigerian nationals overstaying in India, including one who was evading trial in a criminal case, were apprehended on Monday by the Special Staff of Dwarka District Police during Operation VISTA 1.0, a special drive to identify and verify overstaying foreign nationals.
According to the police, two of the apprehended foreigners were subsequently sent to the detention centre at Lampur, while bailable warrants had been issued against the third by a court for September 23.
Operation VISTA 1.0 was launched by the Delhi Police Commissioner as a special drive to verify foreign nationals overstaying in the country. Under the directions of DCP Dwarka Kushal Pal Singh and the supervision of ACP, Operations Cell, Dwarka, Subhash Malik, a Special Staff team headed by Inspector Kamlesh Kumar was tasked with tracing overstaying foreigners and checking the status of those involved in criminal cases.
On August 11, a team comprising SIs Rakesh Kumar and Topesh, ASI Rajender, Head Constables Kuldeep, Parveen, Adesh, Bachchu Singh, and Dheeraj, and Constables Hemraj and Ravi, was constituted for the operation.
As part of the investigation, the team visited Uttam Nagar and interacted with local residents and sources to gather information about foreign nationals staying in the area.
Based on technical surveillance and human intelligence, the team subsequently apprehended three Nigerian nationals from the area.
During questioning, the three failed to produce valid documents to establish their legal stay in India. Following detailed interrogation and verification, they were produced before the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO), Delhi, for further verification.
After completing the necessary verification, the FRRO ordered two of them to be sent to the Lampur detention centre. They were handed over to the Superintendent of the detention centre for further action.
The third foreign national, identified as Amoney Junior Yau, 32, was found to be involved in a criminal case registered at Police Station Narela. According to police, he had been evading trial in the case, and bailable warrants had been issued against him by the court.
The Station House Officer (SHO) concerned has been informed about Yau for further legal proceedings.
The three apprehended Nigerian nationals were identified as Justice, 41, son of Onyenze; Stanley Devbid, 36; and Amoney Junior Yau, 32, son of Amoney.
Police said Yau had previously been involved in FIR No. 120/20, dated March 25, 2020, registered under Sections 186, 353, 323, 427 and 34 of the IPC at Police Station Narela, Delhi.
