Hyderabad, Aug 7 (IANS) Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla greeted weavers of the State on National Handloom Day on Friday.
Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla said that the dedication, skill and creativity of Telangana’s weavers have earned national recognition.
In a message, the Governor described handloom as a proud symbol of India’s cultural heritage and hailed Telangana’s weavers as master artisans whose dedication, skill and creativity have earned national recognition. He said the renowned Pochampally Ikat, Gadwal, Narayanpet, Sircilla and Kothakota handloom traditions reflect Telangana’s rich textile legacy.
“Our weavers are the custodians of our culture. Their craftsmanship has preserved our heritage and brought lasting recognition to Telangana’s handloom tradition,” the Governor said. He also called upon people to encourage and support the handloom sector by choosing handwoven products and honouring the tireless efforts of the weaving community.
On the occasion of National Handloom Day, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy while extending his greetings to handloom weavers and handloom workers stated that handloom is a great legacy that showcases the splendour of Indian culture and traditions to the world.
CM Reddy said his government was working with the goal of honouring the labour, artistry, and creativity of handloom weavers and handloom workers, strengthening their livelihoods, and further developing the handloom sector.
He informed that numerous programs are being implemented to enhance the welfare of handloom workers, increase production efficiency through modern technology, expand marketing opportunities, and preserve traditional arts.
Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) Working President, K.T. Rama Rao, also greeted the weavers. He recalled that Telangana weavers, endowed with the power to create wonders with looms, faced numerous challenges in the undivided Andhra Pradesh. The skilled weaver workers migrated to other states. He claimed that it was the BRS government that brought the weaver workers back to Telangana through innovative schemes and various programs.
K.T. Rama Rao stated that KCR brought life in the lives of weavers through numerous schemes like ‘Chenetha Mitra’, ‘Nethanna Ku Cheyutha’, ‘Nethanna Bhima’, Bathukamma sarees, loan waiver and pensions.
The BRS Party will always remain committed to the welfare of the weavers and the all-round development of the handloom industry, he added.
Union Minister for Coal and Mines, G. Kishan Reddy also greeted weavers. He stated India’s handloom tradition reflects our rich cultural heritage, exceptional craftsmanship and the spirit of self-reliance.
He recalled that commemorating the spirit of the Swadeshi Movement launched on 7 August 1905, Prime Minister Narendra Modi instituted National Handloom Day in 2015 to honour weaving community and promote India’s vibrant handloom tradition.
“Let us reaffirm our commitment to supporting the handloom sector and strengthening the spirit of ‘Vocal for Local’ as we move towards a Viksit Bharat,” he said.
