Hyderabad Nov 02: Several shops and business establishments in the historic Charminar area remained closed on Monday during Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s visit to the Bhagyalakshmi Temple, where he offered prayers.

The shutdown reportedly affected commercial activity in the surrounding areas, with shopkeepers alleging that establishments were forced to close in view of the VIP visit and security arrangements.

“Today, the business has completely came to halt due to the VIP visit here (Charminar surroundings). Let us wait till evening if we are allowed afterward then will resume our business as usual,’’ one of the traders told media.

In fact, the closures triggered concerns over the impact of VIP security measures on the livelihoods of local traders and hawkers. Questions were also raised over whether security arrangements should disrupt the daily business activities of people in the historic commercial hub.
