Hyderabad, October 23: As part of Police Flag Day Week–2026, the Shadnagar Traffic Police organised an ‘Open House Programme’ to educate students about road safety, traffic regulations and measures to prevent road accidents.

During the programme, police personnel explained the functioning of a traffic police station and familiarised students with the duties and responsibilities of traffic police officials. They also demonstrated various equipment used in traffic management and enforcement, including breath analysers, cameras, tablets, traffic batons, reflective jackets, helmets and wireless communication devices.

The students were informed about the major causes of road accidents and the importance of adhering to traffic rules to prevent mishaps and save lives. Police officials emphasised the need to wear helmets while riding two-wheelers, use seat belts in vehicles, obey traffic signals and avoid rash and negligent driving.

Students were also encouraged to spread awareness about road safety among their family members and friends and to promote responsible driving practices in their communities.

The initiative aimed to familiarise students with the role of the traffic police while instilling a sense of responsibility among young people as road users. Officials stressed that following traffic rules and adopting safe practices are essential to reducing accidents and ensuring the safety of motorists, pedestrians and other road users.

Shadnagar Traffic Police Inspector Shankaraiah and other police officials interacted with the students, answered their questions and explained the importance of traffic discipline and road safety.

The programme formed part of the police department’s efforts during Police Flag Day Week–2026 to strengthen public awareness, particularly among students, about traffic regulations and accident prevention. (eom)
