Itanagar, July 25 (IANS) Arunachal Pradesh Governor Lt Gen K.T. Parnaik (Retd.) on Saturday stressed that the true measure of governance lies in the extent to which people benefit from government programmes and welfare schemes, urging officials to ensure that the benefits of Central and state government initiatives reach every eligible citizen, particularly those living in remote and rural areas.
Interacting with district Heads of Departments (HoDs) and Gaon Burahs (GBs) at Shergaon in West Kameng district, the Governor said the welfare of citizens must remain at the core of every reform and development initiative.
He said administrative reforms should not merely improve governance processes but must translate into tangible improvements in people’s lives, adding that such people-centric governance is essential to realise the national vision of Viksit Bharat@2047.
During the visit, the Governor held separate interactions with Gaon Burahs, community elders, Panchayat members, district administration officials and representatives of Self-Help Groups (SHGs), discussing a wide range of issues, including tourism, cooperative development, waste management, education and the growing menace of drug abuse.
Emphasising that the vision of Viksit Bharat should evolve into a people’s movement, the Governor called for active public participation and shared responsibility in nation-building. He said the youth of Arunachal Pradesh are the architects of the country’s future and must be empowered with greater opportunities, proper guidance and a strong sense of purpose.
With committed leadership, responsive governance and community participation, every district can become a catalyst for inclusive and transformative development, he added.
Observing that governance systems are evolving rapidly in response to emerging challenges and opportunities, Lt Gen Parnaik called for continuous innovation and adaptation across government departments. He suggested a comprehensive assessment of emerging departmental requirements to improve planning, optimise resource utilisation and strengthen public service delivery.
He also advocated a “whole-of-district” approach, stressing greater coordination and convergence among departments to achieve common developmental goals.
Addressing the Gaon Burahs, the Governor acknowledged their pivotal role as the link between the administration and local communities. Expressing concern over the increasing incidence of drug abuse among the youth, he called for coordinated efforts by government agencies, community leaders, educational institutions and civil society organisations to tackle the problem effectively.
Local MLA Tseten Chombay, Deputy Commissioner Dilip Kumar Chetia, leaders of the Sherdukpen community, women members of Self-Help Groups and Gaon Burahs also interacted with the Governor and shared their views, experiences and suggestions for the development and welfare of the region.
