Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool faction files 4 police complaints against rebel faction

Kolkata, June 28 (IANS) The original but minority faction within Trinamool Congress, which is continuing with its political allegiance towards for the former West Bengal Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee and her nephew, the party’s general secretary Abhishek Banerjee, has filed four separate complaints at four police stations in and around Kolkata in the last 24 hours against the rebel but majority faction led by expelled party legislator, Ritabrata Banerjee.

Of the four police stations where the complaints have been lodged, two are under the jurisdiction of the Kolkata Police, and the other two are under the jurisdiction of the Bidhannagar City Police.

The two police stations under the Kolkata Police jurisdiction, where the complaints had been lodged, are Kalighat Police Station and Pragati Maidan Police Station.

On the other hand, the two police stations under the Bidhannagar City Police jurisdiction, where the complaints have been filed, are the New Town Police Station and the Bidhannagar Cyber Police Station. The last complaint was filed at the Bidhannagar Cyber Police Station.

The essence of the four police complaints at the four police stations, an insider from the party’s minority faction said, is the same, which is unauthorised use of the party’s logo in mass programmes organised by the rebel faction and illegally announcing the names of veteran party legislator and Arup Roy as the Trinamool Congress chairperson, replacing Mamata Banerjee.

The leader from the old faction pointed out that in 2022, an organisational conference of Trinamool Congress was held, where the delegates present voted in favour of keeping Mamata Banerjee as the party’s chairperson for life.

“Only those who have been members of the party for at least five years had the right to vote as delegates in that conference. As per the calculation, that conference is supposed to be held every five years. That is, the organisational conference is supposed to be held again in 2027. If any special situation arises in the meantime, then the ‘chairperson’, Mamata Banerjee, can only convene a special session. But instead of following that party protocol, the rebel camp had illegally announced Arup Roy’s name as their chairperson in the absence of Mamata Banerjee. Since then, the party logo and name have been used by them as per their wishes. So, we have filed these four separate complaints at four police stations,” the leader from the original but minority camp explained.

However, the rebel camp has its own argument. “Since we have already approached the Election Commission of India (ECI) over the matter of right on the party logo and funds, the matter will be decided at the Commission-level only now.”
