Madhya Pradesh CM directs collectors to ensure uninterrupted fertiliser supply to farmers

Bhopal, Nov 4 (IANS) Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Wednesday directed district collectors to ensure adequate and timely availability of fertilisers to farmers, holding them responsible for any difficulty faced by cultivators in obtaining supplies during the ongoing agricultural season.

Addressing collectors and superintendents of police (SPs) through a video conference from his official residence in Bhopal, Yadav said the entire administrative machinery must remain on alert to ensure farmers receive fertilisers according to their requirements. “Farmers should not face any difficulty in getting fertilisers or other essential supplies. Collectors will be held responsible if any such problem arises,” he said, according to a statement issued by his office.

The Agriculture Department Secretary informed the meeting that there was no problem with fertiliser supplies in the state.

Yadav also directed officials to conduct crop-loss surveys in 12 districts that received normal rainfall this year. He said the surveys should be undertaken after the anawari (crop yield assessment) figures are available, and eligible farmers should be provided relief under government schemes.

The Chief Minister also reviewed preparations for Diwali and directed collectors and police chiefs to ensure peaceful celebrations and make adequate security arrangements. He asked officials to prevent the use of banned firecrackers and carbide guns and lamps, which are harmful to human health.

Small traders selling fruits, flowers, earthen lamps, cotton wicks and decorative lights in major markets should be exempted from local vending charges during the festival and should not face unnecessary harassment, he said.

Yadav directed police and excise officials to take strict action against the manufacture, sale and transportation of illicit liquor. He asked them to identify illegal manufacturing units, physically verify vehicles transporting liquor and regularly collect samples from licensed outlets to check for harmful substances.

Reviewing the anti-drug campaign, he called for action against illegal cultivation of cannabis and opium, dismantling drug trafficking networks and intensifying surveillance around schools, colleges, coaching centres, bus stands and railway stations.

The Chief Minister announced that Govardhan Puja would be organised across the state on November 9, with a major programme in Bhopal. He asked district administrations to organise cow-worship programmes at gaushalas and publicise government incentives and technical assistance available to cattle rearers.
