Hyderabad Oct 31: A suspected illegal fertility operation allegedly functioning behind the façade of a women’s hostel has been exposed in Hyderabad’s Begumpet area following a joint raid by local police and the Special Operations Team (SOT).

The raid was conducted at a premise in Prakash Nagar, where around 10 women were reportedly detained for questioning. Police suspect that the facility was being used to recruit women for the alleged extraction of human eggs and their supply to fertility centres without proper legal authorisation.

According to preliminary investigations, the suspected operation may have been active for approximately a year. The women, reportedly from Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Odisha, are being questioned to determine how they were brought to Hyderabad and whether they were offered money or subjected to coercion.

Police reportedly recovered syringes and contraceptive pills from the premises. The seized material has been sent to Gandhi Hospital for examination. Investigators are also looking into allegations of sperm sample collection and possible links with fertility clinics.

The investigation is focusing on the hostel operators, alleged intermediaries and the suspected network connecting them with fertility centres. Police are also examining whether the women were subjected to unauthorised medical procedures.

Cases relating to cheating and wrongful confinement have reportedly been registered. Further investigation is underway to establish the facts and identify everyone involved in the suspected racket.
