Hyderabad Sweet Shops Found Selling Expired, Fungus-Infected Sweets During Dasara Inspections

Hyderabad Oct  23, The Freedom Press:  Several sweet shops across Hyderabad were found selling expired sweets, operating without valid Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) licences and preparing food under unhygienic conditions during inspections conducted by the Telangana Safe Food Wing and enforcement officials ahead of the Dasara festivities.

Twelve inspection teams carried out checks at sweet shops across the city. Officials reportedly found expired sweets being mixed with fresh batches, raising concerns about food safety and public health.

The inspections also revealed peanuts and sweets showing signs of insect infestation and fungal growth being kept for sale. Authorities identified violations related to food quality, hygiene and licensing requirements.

Action Against Violators

Officials said action would be taken against the shops found violating food safety norms. Some establishments may be closed, while others will be served show-cause or improvement notices. Expired sweets found during the inspections will be discarded.

The inspections come during the festive season, when demand for sweets typically increases as people purchase them for celebrations, family gatherings and religious offerings.

Further details from the Telangana Safe Food Wing (TGSAFE) are awaited. (eom)
