Hina Khan turns ‘Kashmir Ki Kali’ as she plays tumbaknari at sister’s pre-wedding celebrations

Mumbai, Aug 24 (IANS) Television Hina Khan embraced her Kashmiri roots as she joined the pre-wedding celebrations of her younger sister.

Taking to Instagram, the ‘Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata’ Hai actress gave a glimpse into the pre-wedding festivities. Hina shared videos from the celebrations, describing herself as a “Kashmir Ki Kali” as she got into the festive spirit ahead of her sister’s wedding. The actress also played the tumbaknari, a traditional Kashmiri percussion instrument, adding a cultural touch to the family celebrations. In the video, Hina Khan is seen sitting on the floor, singing and playing the tumbaknari as she joins the pre-wedding celebrations.

The actress is seen dressed in a traditional green suit paired with an orange salwar. She completed her look with a statement neckpiece, traditional jewellery, dark lipstick and her hair styled to one side. Alongside the video, Hina wrote, “All things Kashmiri Kashmir Ki Kali all up for Choti Behen Ki shaadi. #kashmiri #kashmiriweddings #sisterhood #kaagzibadaam #tumbakhnaer.”

Notably, the ‘Kasautii Zindagii Kay 2’ actress has often spoken about her Kashmiri roots and has showcased her connection with the culture on social media. This time, she brought the same spirit to her sister’s special celebrations, blending traditional elements with the joy of a family wedding.

Proud of her Kashmiri heritage and fluent in the language, she has also opened up about experiencing colourism in the film industry. In an interview, Hina had revealed that she once lost out on a Kashmiri character because she was not considered “fair-skinned enough.

For the unversed, Hina Khan was born in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir. She grew up in a traditional Kashmiri Muslim family.

Work-wise, Hina Khan is best known for her stint on the popular television show “Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai,” which earned her several accolades. She later participated in reality shows including “Fear Factor: Khatron Ke Khiladi 8” and “Bigg Boss 11.” She went on to play the antagonist Komolika in “Kasautii Zindagii Kay 2.”
