Gajwel (Siddipet): A farmer was allegedly assaulted by a sub-inspector at Gajwel Police Station in Siddipet district on Friday, October 23, after he approached the police to lodge a complaint over a land-related dispute.

The farmer, Bheemari Ravi, a resident of Giripalli village, had reportedly quarrelled with his brother over the use of water from a borewell located on his agricultural land. During the dispute, his relatives allegedly attacked him, leaving him with minor injuries.

Ravi was subsequently taken to Gajwel Government Hospital by local residents for treatment. After receiving medical attention, he went to the Gajwel Police Station to file a complaint against those allegedly involved in the assault.

However, his relatives alleged that the sub-inspector on duty behaved disrespectfully towards him and slapped him on the cheek. They claimed that Ravi suffered an injury near his eyebrow, causing bleeding.

In a video circulated on social media, Ravi alleged that the SI hit him when he requested the officer to visit his agricultural field and inspect the borewell.

Following reports of the incident, Gajwel Assistant Commissioner of Police K. Narsimulu reached the police station and initiated an inquiry.

The ACP said the incident occurred around 7 pm. According to him, the SI questioned Ravi about switching off the motor, following which an argument broke out. He added that when the SI slapped Ravi, the farmer fell on a staircase and sustained a cut above his eye.

Further details regarding the inquiry and any action against the officer were not immediately available. (eom)
