Delhi BJP chief Harsh Malhotra slams Punjab’s AAP govt for Amritsar student’s suicide over fee

New Delhi, June 2 (IANS) Delhi BJP President Harsh Malhotra on Tuesday junked the so-called “education revolution” of the AAP in Punjab, pointing to an Amritsar girl’s suicide allegedly due to non-payment of fee to a private school.

Malhotra said the incident of a girl taking her own life over a school fee amounting to only a few thousand rupees has shaken the conscience of the entire country and, at the same time, exposed the Punjab Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government’s claims of bringing about an education revolution.

The Delhi BJP chief stated that during the AAP rule in Delhi, both Arvind Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia spent 11 years making false claims of an education revolution in the city, the condition of government schools deteriorated significantly, while fees in private schools doubled and even tripled.

He said that for the past four years, people have continuously witnessed Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, along with Kejriwal and Sisodia, claiming to bring an education revolution to Punjab.

However, the alleged suicide of the school student in Amritsar has completely exposed the reality behind the AAP government’s claims, he said.

Malhotra said that during the AAP rule, parents of students studying in both poorly managed government schools and private schools affected by steep fee hikes in Delhi repeatedly sought relief. However, Kejriwal and Sisodia continued to drown out their concerns through publicity campaigns.

The tragic incident in Amritsar, he said, has now exposed the hollow claims made by AAP leaders regarding educational reforms and regulation of private schools, not only in Delhi but now in Punjab as well, he said.

The Delhi BJP chief stated that on Monday, Kejriwal and Sisodia had posted three separate messages on the social media platform X praising Punjab’s world-class private schools.

Today, he said, the alleged suicide of a private school student over a relatively small fee amount has exposed what he described as the “true face” of Team Kejriwal.
