Delhi: 6,000 people join NDMC’s International Day of Yoga events at 9 locations

New Delhi, June 21 (IANS) The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC), in coordination with the Ministry of Ayush and eight yoga institutions, observed the 12th International Day of Yoga at nine locations with around 6,000 participants, an official said on Sunday.
The participants were led by NDMC Chairperson Keshav Chandra who led them in performing the common yoga protocol as part of the theme of “Yoga for Healthy Ageing”, the official said in a statement.
Union Minister of Health & Family Welfare and Chemicals & Fertilizers Jagat Prakash Nadda along with Secretary, Ministry of Ayush, and volunteers of Art of Living participated in the yoga programme organized by NDMC at Shanti Path, said the statement.
Union Minister of State for Jal Shakti Raj Bhushan Chaudhary participated in the Yoga Protocol programme at Lodhi Garden, it said.
Chandra along with volunteers of Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga, Senior Officers and staff of NDMC participated in Yoga Protocol programme held at Palika Services Officers’ Institute, Chanakyapuri, it said.
Addressing the gathering, Chandra emphasised the importance of integrating yoga into daily life, stating: “Yoga is not merely a practice for a single day; it is a way of life that should become an integral part of our daily routine.”
“Beginning each day with yoga helps cultivate physical fitness, mental clarity, and inner balance. Yoga strengthens not only the body but also the mind and consciousness, enabling us to lead healthier, more focused, and productive lives,” he said.
“In today’s fast-paced world, embracing yoga is essential for achieving holistic well-being, resilience, and sustained energy in our everyday activities,” he said.
Chandra said that the main events were organised by NDMC at nine locations like Lodhi Garden, Talkatora Garden, Kartavya Path, IAS Residential Complex (New Moti Bagh), Sanjay Jheel (Laxmi Bai Nagar), Pandara Park, Palika Park (Connaught Place) and PSOI – Chankyapuri in New Delhi.
Apart from this NDMC Council Member Anil Valmiki along with local residents, volunteers, senior officers and staff of NDMC participated in Yoga Protocol programme held at Valmiki Sadan , Mandir Marg, he said.
Valmiki said that the yoga programme reflected NDMC’s commitment to promoting a healthy lifestyle, holistic well-being, and a culture of wellness among its employees and citizens.
Beside the nine prominent locations, Yoga protocol events were also held at NDMC Old Age Home, Working Women Hostel, AYUSH Units, Resident Welfare Associations and different Offices, said the statement.
The NDMC collaborated with Art of Living, Patanjali Yoga Samiti, Gayatri Parivar, Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga, Isha Yoga Centre, The Yoga Guru Institute, Mokshayatan Yog Sansthan, and International Naturopathy Organisation for the success of the International Day of Yoga 2026 in New Delhi area, it said.
