Hyderabad Oct 28: Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has directed officials to ensure uninterrupted drinking water supply to Hyderabad and prevent shortages under any circumstances, amid concerns over future water availability due to El Niño conditions.
At a high-level review meeting held at the MCRHRDI on Wednesday, the Chief Minister instructed officials to closely monitor reservoir levels and remain alert to any potential challenges in meeting the city’s water requirements.
The Chief Minister also stressed the need to ensure that all sewage treatment plants (STPs) within the Hyderabad CURE region, up to the Outer Ring Road (ORR) limits, operate at 100 per cent capacity to strengthen water management and meet future demand.
He directed officials to maximise the use of treated wastewater for non-drinking purposes and conserve freshwater resources for domestic consumption. Treated water should be used to maintain greenery at the Secretariat, Chief Minister’s Office, government buildings, Metro Rail facilities and public parks.
The Chief Minister further called for the use of treated wastewater in road cleaning and strict enforcement of regulations requiring its use in building construction.
Emphasising the importance of water conservation and preparedness, CM Revanth Reddy instructed officials to take all necessary measures to safeguard Hyderabad’s drinking water supply and ensure effective utilisation of available water resources.
