Chandigarh, July 21 (IANS) Out of the 5,16,427 registered electors of Chandigarh as on the commencement of SIR, announced on May 14, the enumeration phase concluded with 4,50,280 enumeration forms (87.19 per cent) collected and digitised, while 66,147 forms (12.81 per cent) remained uncollected, the Election Commission of India said on Tuesday.
The successful completion of this phase was made possible through the dedicated efforts of the District Election Officer, Electoral Registration Officers (EROs), Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs) and Nodal Officers, along with 614 Booth Level Officers (BLOs) and BLO Supervisors deployed at the polling booths.
Valuable support was also extended by NSS volunteers and the field representatives of all recognised political parties, including their district Presidents and 1,780 Booth Level Agents (BLAs) appointed by them, functioning under the overall electoral framework of the office of the Chief Electoral Officer.
Of the 4,50,280 collected Enumeration Forms reconciled for mapping, 3,80,821 electors were linked with the last SIR through self-mapping or progeny mapping; the remaining 69,459 electors submitted Enumeration Forms without any linkage to the last SIR, as mapping details were not provided.
As per the ASDD (Absent/ Shifted/ Dead and Duplicate) list, 66,147 Enumeration Forms remained uncollected. The names of these electors will not be included in the Draft Electoral Roll; however, genuine electors among them may be added back through Form-6 during the Claims and Objections period.
The enumeration phase commenced on June 15 and concluded on July 15; 100 per cent of Enumeration Forms were distributed by BLOs within the first seven days. Each elector’s household was visited by the BLO to distribute the form, followed by at least three visits to collect the filled form; BLAs and volunteers also followed up independently, and intimation stickers were affixed at residences of electors unavailable during BLO visits.
The efforts of the BLOs who completed the activity ahead of schedule were duly recognised, and incentives were awarded in appreciation of their performance, added the Election Commission.
