Andhra Pradesh Oct 31: A nine-month pregnant tribal woman was carried on a makeshift stretcher for nearly three kilometres by her family members after she developed labour pains in the early hours of Friday, highlighting the lack of basic road connectivity in a remote tribal village in Andhra Pradesh. A video has surfaced and being largely circulated on the social media.

The woman, identified as Killo Neelima, belongs to Talaripadu village in Anantagiri mandal of Alluri Sitharama Raju district. As no motorable road was available to reach the village, her family members had to carry her on a makeshift stretcher to arrange medical assistance.

She was subsequently taken to a government health facility for treatment. According to local media reports, she delivered a baby boy, and both the mother and newborn were reported to be safe.

The incident has triggered concerns among tribal residents over the lack of basic infrastructure and access to emergency healthcare in remote areas. Villagers have questioned claims of extensive road development in agency areas, asking why pregnant women continue to be carried on traditional stretchers despite assurances of improved connectivity.

The incident has also renewed questions over the availability of roads and emergency medical transport in tribal habitations under the Chandrababu Naidu-led Andhra Pradesh government. Residents have called for immediate measures to ensure proper road access and ambulance services in remote villages.
