Hyderabad Nov 02: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday invoked the role of India’s first Deputy Prime Minister, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, in Hyderabad’s integration with the Indian Union, stating that the city would not have become part of India had Patel not taken action against the Nizam’s rule.
Addressing a gathering during his Hyderabad visit, Shah began his speech by offering prayers at Bhagyalakshmi Temple and paying tribute to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.
“First of all, I bow at the feet of Maa Bhagyalakshmi, and I begin my address by offering my heartfelt respects to Sardar Patel Sahab. If Sardar Patel had not made the Nizam bow down at that time, Hyderabad would not be a part of India today,” Shah said.
His remarks referred to the events of September 1948, when the Indian government launched Operation Polo, leading to the integration of the erstwhile Hyderabad State into the Indian Union and ending the Nizam’s rule.
