Mushtaq Malik Questions Ramdev’s Remarks on Muslims, Sanatan Dharma

Hyderabad Oct 28: Mushtaq Malik, president of Tehreek Muslim Shabban, has questioned the intent behind remarks by Baba Ramdev that 99 per cent of Muslims belong to Sanatan Dharma, asking what message such statements are intended to convey to Muslims and other minorities in the country.
Reacting to the remarks, Malik said he did not want to enter into a debate over whether Muslims had converted from Sanatan Dharma or had a separate historical identity. Instead, he questioned why Ramdev and RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat repeatedly described every citizen living in India as a Hindu.
Malik said Ramdev’s latest remarks appeared to present a different argument by describing Muslims as Sanatanis. He also criticised the Manusmriti, alleging that it denied dignity and equality to women, Dalits and backward communities.
He further argued that the text promoted social hierarchies and did not provide space for people following other religions, raising concerns over the implications of such views for India’s religious diversity and pluralistic society.
