Woman jumps from window after seeing son hanging in J&K’s Reasi, old woman murdered in Pulwama

Jammu/Srinagar, Oct 19 (IANS) A shocked mother jumped through the window after seeing her son hanging in J&K’s Reasi district on Monday, police said.

The 45-year-old woman was injured after jumping from a window upon seeing her son hanging at their home in the Mahore area of Reasi.

The incident occurred in Baggodas village of Mahore tehsil, where a youth, identified as Mohd Farooq, 20, son of Shabir Ahmed, was found hanging at his home during the intervening night of October 18 and 19.

Officials said the boy’s mother, upon seeing her son hanging, jumped from the window of the house and sustained serious injuries.

His mother was identified as Basso Begum, aged 45 years. She was taken to the Government Medical College and Hospital, Jammu by family members, where she is undergoing treatment.

Police have started an investigation into the incident.

In another incident, a 70-year-old woman was found murdered by unidentified assailants inside her residence in Parigam village of Pulwama district early on Monday

Officials said the incident occurred around 5 a.m. when the woman’s son had gone to a nearby mosque to offer pre-dawn prayers.

“The assailants allegedly entered the house and slit the woman’s throat, killing her on the spot. She was found lying in a pool of blood. The victim was identified as Jana Begum (70), wife of late Ghulam Ahmad Bhat, while the motive behind the killing remains unclear,” an official said.

Police have taken cognisance of the incident and launched an investigation to identify the assailants and ascertain the circumstances surrounding the murder, officials said.
