10 of 19 services sub-sectors in India’s economy clock double-digit growth in July

New Delhi, Sep 29 (IANS) As many as 10 of the 19 services sub-sectors of the Indian economy recorded a robust double-digit growth in July this year compared to the same month of the previous year, according to the Index of Services Production (ISP) with base year 2024-25, released by the National Statistics Office (NSO) on Tuesday.

Administrative and support services were the fastest-growing segment, with an increase of 20.9 per cent in July this year compared to July 2025, up from 14.4 per cent in June. Real estate, which led in June, slowed to 14.4 per cent from 24.7 per cent. Retail trade (18.5 per cent), accommodation and food (12.6 per cent), and banking (12.3 per cent) made up the rest of the top-five list.

Three sectors crossed into double digits during the month: information and broadcasting grew 10 per cent, up from 4.6 per cent in June; telecommunications rose to 11 per cent from 9.5 per cent. IT and computer-related services clocked a 10.7 per cent growth while professional, scientific and technical services, including R&D, grew 10.4 per cent year-on-year, up from 9.1 per cent in the earlier month.

Warehousing and support activities for transportation clocked a 9.8 per cent growth in July. Transport segments other than aviation posted faster growth during the month. Railway transport growth more than doubled to 7.5 per cent, postal and courier services quickened to 8.7 per cent, and water transport rose to 7.7 per cent.

Air transport contracted for a fourth month in a row as the widening Middle East conflict and the continuing closure of Pakistan’s airspace for Indian airliners adversely impacted the international operations of India’s commercial airlines. The decline widened to 8.4 per cent from 6 per cent in June, the figures showed.

In index terms, accommodation and food stood highest at 144, followed by retail trade at 140, and administrative and support services at 134.5. The index for road transport stood at 132.1 reflecting the rapid expansion of the country’s network of national highways and expressways that are facilitating road travel.
