Vasundhara Raje, Satish Poonia get key posts in BJP national team

Jaipur, Aug 17 (IANS) Two veteran leaders from Rajasthan, Vasundhara Raje and Satish Poonia, have found a place in Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) National President Nitin Nabin’s new team announced on Monday, ending months of anticipation over the organisational appointments.
The new team comprises 13 National Vice Presidents and eight General Secretaries, with representation from several key states.
Former Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje has been appointed National Vice President, while former Union Minister Smriti Irani has been named National General Secretary. Rajasthan BJP leader Satish Poonia has also been given a key organisational responsibility. BL Santhosh will continue as General Secretary (Organisation).
The announcement comes around seven months after Nabin assumed charge as BJP President, with the formation of his new team having remained pending during this period.
The composition of the Nabin team is being viewed in the context of the BJP’s preparations for the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections. Six office-bearers in the new organisational structure are from Uttar Pradesh.
The team also provides representation to leaders from several states, including three from Rajasthan, six from Delhi, four from Maharashtra, and two each from Uttarakhand, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Punjab, West Bengal, Kerala and Bihar.
The new team includes several women leaders in important organisational positions.
They include Vasundhara Raje, National Vice President, Rajasthan; D. Purandeswari, National Vice President, Andhra Pradesh; Rekha Verma, National Vice President, Uttar Pradesh; Varshaben Doshi, National Vice President, Gujarat; Bharati Pawar, National Vice President, Maharashtra; Madhuchandra Kar, National Vice President, West Bengal; Smriti Irani, National General Secretary, Uttar Pradesh; Kavita Patidar, National Secretary, Madhya Pradesh; Phangnon Konyak, National Secretary, Nagaland; Sangeeta Yadav, National Secretary, Uttar Pradesh; Roop Kumari Chaudhary, Mahila Morcha President, Chhattisgarh; and Preeti Gandhi, Social Media Co-convenor, Maharashtra.
The new organisational structure is expected to play a crucial role in strengthening the BJP’s network and preparing the party for upcoming Assembly elections and other political challenges.
