Telangana CM seeks Centre’s support for cargo, MRO units at Adilabad Airport

Hyderabad, June 22 (IANS) Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy met Defence Minister Rajnath Singh in New Delhi on Monday and requested cooperation for the large-scale establishment of cargo, MRO, and hangar facilities, alongside the Indian Air Force airport and the Civil Aviation terminal building at Adilabad.
Highlighting that Adilabad is an ideal location for world-renowned airlines to set up their hangars, particularly in light of recent developments in the Middle East, Revanth Reddy requested the development of the airport, keeping these requirements in mind.
According to the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), he pledged the state government’s cooperation for the development and major expansion of the upcoming Indian Air Force airport at Adilabad.
The Chief Minister assured the Defence Minister of the state government’s full cooperation regarding the development of the Adilabad airport, a high-priority project. He assured cooperation, specifically with regard to land acquisition and the shifting of utilities.
He conveyed to the Union Minister that the state government would extend all possible support, given the project’s significance to national integrity and defence.
Civil Aviation Minister K. Ram Mohan Naidu had announced in April that an airport for defence will be built at Adilabad, and have an enclave for civil operations,
While the defence already has an airstrip with 360 acres in Adilabad, the Civil Aviation Ministry has asked the state government to acquire another 450 acres for building the airport.
The proposed airport will be a major facility with a runway capable of handling Airbus A320 aircraft.
The Chief Minister also requested the Defence Minister to expedite the sanction of a key DRDO/DRDL project at the site selected near Devarakadra in Mahabubnagar district.
He also expressed his gratitude to Rajnath Singh for the transfer of Defence Ministry lands for the Gandhi Sarovar project.
The Centre last week granted permission to the state government to undertake work on its flagship Gandhi Sarovar Project on the defence land at Bapu Ghat, Hyderabad.
