Telangana bus conductor with unusual height gets alternate role in RTC

Hyderabad, May 6 (IANS) Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) has come to the rescue of a bus conductor who was unable to perform his duties due to his exceptional height of 6.5 feet.

Ameen Ahmed Ansari had been serving as bus conductor at TGSRTC’s Mehdipatnam depot in Hyderabad.

However, the 198 cm (6.5 feet) tall conductor was unable to perform duties as conductor inside the bus as the maximum height of the bus is only 6.4 feet.

Ansari was suffering from neck and back pain due to the difficulty in performing his duties. He was unable to move and operate in the limited headroom conditions. He had to constantly bend while moving around in the bus for issuing tickets.

Working in a 10-hour shift with minimum five trips daily was taking a toll on him due to his unusual height and he had requested the authorities concerned to reassign him alternate duties in view of his unusual height.

Transport minister Ponnam Prabhakar had brought Ansari’s situation to Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s notice and suggested providing him with suitable alternate duties in TGSRTC.

Considering his case, the TGSRTC had provided Ansari with out of designation duty for a period of one year. The one-year period came to an end on April 28, 2026.

In view of the hardships faced by the employee, permission has been accorded to utilise his services for an alternate position in the corporation.

The state-owned public transport operator has now issued an order to utilise the service of Ameen Ahmed Ansari at any TGSRTC bus pass section or Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) for out of designation duty based on the requirement.

The move by the public transport authority came as a big relief for Ansari, who was appointed on compassionate grounds after his father, who was conductor at Kachiguda depot, died in 2021.

The TGSRTC’s gesture to help the man facing unique challenges in performing his duties has earned praise, with many netizens hailing the move to re-assign him alternate duties.
