Tejashwi Yadav slams Bihar govt over police action on TRE‑4 protesters

Patna, May 21 (IANS) Bihar Leader of the Opposition Tejashwi Yadav on Thursday sharply criticised the NDA government led by Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary over police action on candidates protesting for the release of vacancies under the TRE‑4 teacher recruitment drive.
In a social media post, Tejashwi accused the government of betraying and unjustly treating Bihar’s youth and questioned the use of police force against job aspirants.
The RJD leader said the youth were merely reminding the government of its pre-election promise of providing 10 million (1 crore) jobs and demanding the conduct of the TRE-4 examination.
“How can demanding TRE-4 recruitment become a crime? How can protesting against paper leaks be considered an offense?” he asked, alleging that repeated police lathi-charges on students and aspirants were unacceptable.
Tejashwi further stated that if the government wished to use the police force effectively, it should focus on curbing crime and corruption instead of targeting unemployed youth.
The former Deputy Chief Minister alleged that the NDA government had no real intention of proceeding with TRE-4 recruitment.
Referring to the previous Mahagathbandhan government, he claimed that during its 17-month tenure, more than 200,000 teachers were recruited through TRE-1 and TRE-2 without any paper leak incident, while recruitment for another 130,000 posts had also been initiated.
Tejashwi pointed out that despite major political changes in the state — including changes in chief ministers, deputy chief ministers, and cabinet reshuffles — no official notification for TRE-4 has yet been released.
He also took a swipe at the government, alleging that ministers were more focused on creating social media content and publicity than addressing the concerns of unemployed youth.
The RJD leader said the same NDA leaders who had sought votes from the youth before elections were now responding to their demands with police action.
“The youth of Bihar will never forget this deception and betrayal,” he said.
The criticism comes amid growing protests by teacher aspirants in Patna demanding the immediate release of the TRE-4 notification and recruitment process.
