Piyush Goyal calls Pahalgam attack as ‘wake up call’, cautions citizens to be alert of suspicious activity

Mumbai, April 22 (IANS) Union Minister Piyush Goyal on Wednesday termed the Pahalgam terror attack as a “wake up call” for the country. He cautioned that in the fight against terrorism, every citizen needs to be alert and report any kind of suspicious activity that may come to their notice.

Speaking to reporters, Goyal mentioned that security is a shared responsibility of every individual in society.

He said that staying alert, reporting suspicious activities, and avoiding rumours are all extremely important.

“Every citizen should be alert about any kind of suspicious activity that may take place around them,” the Union Minister noted.

Terming the Pahalgam attack as a “wake up call”, Goyal said, “It was a really unfortunate incident but also in a way a wake-up call that won’t go waste. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given a befitting reply with Operation Sindoor.”

He emphasised that the Central government has been successful in almost completely eradicating Naxalism from India.

“Similarly if the country comes together we will able to eradicate terrorism as well,” the Union Minister said.

Goyal also lashed out at the Congress after party President Mallikarjun Kharge allegedly referred to PM Modi as a “terrorist”.

The Union Minister said, “This can only be the Congress’ mindset. It is the mentality of the Gandhi family and their associates. They can’t digest the fact that the citizens have chosen PM Modi as the Prime Minister for the third time.”

He accused the Congress, DMK and Trinamool Congress of engaging in dynasty politics.

“All of them give importance to just one family (in their respective parties),” he claimed.

“Frustration reflects in Khargeji’s statement. He should apologise to the country,” Goyal asserted.

About the Assembly polls in West Bengal, the Union Minister alleged that the people in the state have “suffered” under the reign of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

“The state has been deprived of development. Women are not safe there. Illegal infiltrators have destroyed the administration in Bengal. I think that the people in Bengal have decided that this time Mamataji will be defeated,” Goyal said.

Further expressing confidence of BJP’s victory, he asserted that the Trinamool Congress’ defeat in the election will be “so big” that it would not be able to win back voters for years after that.

Goyal said if any state or politician gives shelter to illegal infiltrators in order to fulfill their political interests, “no Indian citizen will tolerate this”.

The Union Minister added, “West Bengal’s people won’t forgive Mamata Banerjee for this.”

Moreover, Goyal predicted that BJP will ensure victory in both West Bengal and Tamil Nadu.

“Given the increase of corruption and drug menace as well as the atmosphere of anarchy in both Bengal and Tamil Nadu, NDA government is going to be formed in both states,” he said.
