Patna, Sep 18 (IANS) JD(U) National President and former Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Friday inaugurated a day-long orientation programme for the party’s MLAs and MLCs at Karpoori Hall in the party headquarters in Patna.
The meeting, attended by legislators and senior party leaders, is aimed at familiarising elected representatives with their legislative responsibilities and the functioning of the state legislature. Bihar Health Minister Nishant Kumar shared the stage with Nitish Kumar during the inaugural session.
Among those attending the programme are JD(U) National Working President Sanjay Kumar Jha, State President Umesh Singh Kushwaha, Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Choudhary, Ashok Choudhary, Sanjay Gandhi, and Minister Shravan Kumar, along with other senior party leaders.
The programme includes sessions by experts on parliamentary procedures and is scheduled to continue throughout the day. Legislators are being briefed on legislative duties, House proceedings, methods of raising constituency-related issues, the law-making process, recent legislative developments, and key aspects of the state budget and Bihar’s economy.
Mokama MLA Anant Singh did not attend the orientation programme. Attendance was reportedly mandatory for all JD(U) MLAs and MLCs, and Singh’s unavailability in this programme has drawn attention due to his stand on the upcoming MLC elections.
Party MLA and Cabinet Minister Jama Khan said such meetings are a regular organisational exercise and should not be viewed through a political lens.
Commenting on the absence of Mokama MLA Anant Singh, who did not attend the programme despite reports that participation was mandatory, Khan dismissed speculation about any discord within the party.
He added that senior party leaders guide the legislators on various matters. Khan also endorsed suggestions regarding a larger leadership role for Nishant Kumar, saying such a proposition was “absolutely correct”.
With the Bihar political landscape witnessing heightened activity ahead of key electoral contests, the gathering of JD(U) legislators in Patna has drawn considerable political attention.
