MP: Four arrested, Rs 16.77 lakh recovered in Guna robbery case

Guna, July 9 (IANS) The Guna police have arrested four persons and recovered Rs 16.77 lakh within 18 hours of a robbery in which Rs 17 lakh was looted from an employee of a coriander trader in Madhya Pradesh, police said on Thursday.
The arrested include two alleged robbers, a person accused of helping them escape and another accused of providing information about the movement of the cash.
According to the police, the robbery took place on the morning of July 8 near Nichla Bazar Rapta in Guna city. The complainant, Vasudev Sharma, an employee of a coriander trader, was carrying Rs 17 lakh in cash to Kumbhraj. The amount included Rs 15 lakh collected from Pachore and Rs 2 lakh from Guna.
Guna Superintendent of Police Hitika Vasal said the accused intercepted Sharma near the causeway, sprayed a substance into his eyes, snatched the bag containing the cash and fled from the spot.
“A case was registered immediately after the incident, and multiple police teams were formed to investigate the matter. Based on CCTV footage, technical evidence and other inputs, we arrested the accused within 18 hours,” Vasal said, addressing a press conference on Thursday.
During interrogation, the police found that two of the arrested persons had allegedly carried out the robbery, while one had helped them escape and another had tipped them off about the movement of the cash.
The police recovered Rs 16,77,100 of the stolen money and seized a Swift car allegedly used in the crime.
“We have recovered almost the entire stolen amount and the vehicle used in the offence. Further investigation is underway, and efforts are being made to recover the remaining amount and ascertain whether the accused were involved in any other similar cases,” Vasal added.
The police officer further informed that six teams were constituted to crack the case. The investigation involved the analysis of CCTV footage from different locations, technical surveillance, field verification, and information gathered from local sources.
The accused have been taken into custody and are being questioned. Further investigation into the case is underway.
