Kozhikode, April 2 (IANS) The CPI(M)-led Left Democratic Front (LDF) on Thursday unveiled a comprehensive, two-volume election manifesto, positioning employment generation and welfare expansion at the core of its electoral pitch in Kerala.
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan released the document, underscoring the front’s promise of continuity in development over the past decade.
Kerala goes to the polls on April 9 to elect 140 new legislators.
A central pillar of the manifesto is an ambitious employment road map.
The LDF has assured jobs for all students completing their education in the state, with an immediate target of providing employment to 60,000 people in the current academic year.
Over a five-year horizon, the front has pledged to generate jobs for 20 lakh women, alongside offering interest-free loans to educated youth to promote entrepreneurship and self employment.
Welfare remains a key focus area, with the LDF promising to raise social security pensions to Rs 3,000.
The manifesto also outlines a rights-based approach to welfare delivery, aiming to strengthen financial security for vulnerable sections.
In healthcare, the front has proposed comprehensive protection for bedridden patients and a universal health insurance scheme that would ensure access to treatment without financial constraints.
On the development front, the LDF has reiterated its commitment to large scale infrastructure and industrial growth.
It has pledged to continue efforts toward establishing a high speed North-South railway corridor and to attract investments worth Rs 2 lakh crore in the industrial sector over five years.
The manifesto also highlights diversification strategies to strengthen the public sector and sustain economic momentum.
Addressing socio-political concerns, the LDF has proposed the introduction of a nativity card to ease anxieties related to the Citizenship Act.
It has also promised to complete the Sabarimala Master Plan within five years and continue special development packages for regions such as Idukki, Wayanad, Kasaragod, Kuttanad and coastal areas.
With a blend of welfare assurances, job guarantees and infrastructure ambitions, the LDF manifesto seeks to reinforce its governance record while offering a forward-looking road map.
As the campaign enters its final phase, the front is banking on its delivery track record and expansive promises to consolidate voter support across key segments.
