Kerala to hold special drive for voter enrolment and roll revision

Thiruvananthapuram, Oct 8 (IANS) Kerala will conduct a statewide special drive for electoral roll revision and enrolment of new voters from October 15 to 31, Chief Electoral Officer Dr D. Sajith Babu announced on Thursday.
Instructions have been issued to all District Collectors.
Form distribution centres and digital help desks will be set up around Village Offices during the drive.
Eligible people can apply to add their names to the electoral roll by submitting Form 6.
Applications can also be filed online through the Citizen Service Portal or the Voter Helpline App.
Applicants will have to submit an approved document as proof of identity, age, and address.
Those submitting Aadhaar cards as proof will have to provide an additional supporting document.
Booth Level Officers will carry out further verification after the applications are received.
They will visit houses within the limits of their respective polling stations.
Electoral Registration Officers have also been given specific verification duties.
They will examine major differences between the electoral roll that was in force on January 1, 2025, and the electoral roll that came into effect after the Assembly election.
They will also verify applications that were not returned during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR).
Applications that were not included in the electoral roll published after the Assembly election will also be examined.
The special drive will also focus on young and first-time voters.
A week-long campaign called “Campus to Booth” will be organised from November 2.
The campaign will be held at colleges, higher secondary schools and schools across the state.
It will carry the tagline ‘Step Forward, Get Counted’.
District Collectors have been asked to take steps to involve the maximum number of students in voter awareness activities.
Electoral Literacy Clubs in educational institutions will be used for the campaign.
The initiative will focus on voter awareness and enrolment of eligible students.
The Election Commission has been taking steps to update electoral rolls and ensure that eligible voters are included in them.
The Kerala drive will provide another opportunity for people who have not yet enrolled to apply for inclusion.
The authorities have also asked officials to verify changes in the electoral rolls and applications that remained unresolved during the SIR exercise.
The door-to-door verification by BLOs is expected to help officials check the details submitted by applicants.
The special drive will cover all districts of Kerala.
