Girl student arrested for transporting hybrid ganja in Mangaluru

Mangaluru (Karnataka), May 13 (IANS) Karnataka Police have arrested a BCA student on charges of transporting hybrid ganja worth Rs 35 lakh in Mangaluru city, police said on Wednesday.
The accused has been identified as 21-year-old Suhana, a resident of Sagar in Shivamogga district.
According to the police, the accused brought ganja from Chennai and sold it to students in the coastal city of Mangaluru.
Police further stated that several criminal cases had already been registered against her in Bengaluru and Mangaluru. The Mulki police have registered a case in connection with the present incident and are carrying out an investigation.
The accused is a final-year BCA student at a reputed college in Kundapura town of Udupi district. Police nabbed her on Tuesday while she was allegedly selling the narcotic substance on Mulki Railway Station Road.
Special police teams from Panambur and Mulki jointly carried out the operation and arrested the accused.
Police seized 1.40 kilograms of hybrid ganja worth Rs 35 lakh. The seized ganja is said to have a high market value.
Police also confiscated a mobile phone and other documents from her possession.
According to the preliminary investigation, Suhana had allegedly transported the narcotic substance from Chennai to Mangaluru. She is accused of selling the narcotics to college students and affluent individuals in the Mangaluru district.
The police investigation has also revealed her alleged involvement in serious criminal cases in the past. The Kavooru police have registered a case under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
It has also come to light that the Customs Department at Bengaluru International Airport had earlier registered a case related to the transportation of narcotics against her.
It may be recalled that Bengaluru Police have intensified their crackdown on narcotics amid a rise in incidents involving drug trafficking and the arrest of peddlers in the city.
In a major operation against drug networks, on May 5, police seized narcotic substances worth Rs 14.75 crore in two separate cases. Police teams from Nandini Layout and Yeshwanthpur recovered a total of 13.7 kilograms of hydro ganja and MDMA crystals during the raids.
