Don’t politicise protests, focus on solutions: RSS chief’s message to protesters, leaders

Nagpur, Oct 20 (IANS) Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) Sarsanghchalak Mohan Bhagwat on Tuesday emphasised that while public protests against societal issues are natural, their primary objective must remain finding constructive solutions rather than serving political agendas.
In his address during the Vijayadashami and ‘Shastra Puja’ celebrations at the Reshimbagh ground in Nagpur, Maharashtra, Bhagwat cautioned that using agitations as a tool for political posturing or harbouring animosity towards specific individuals, groups, or ideologies can severely divide society. He appealed to protesters, the government, administrative authorities, and political leaders to ensure that their actions do not breed discord, hatred, bitterness, or societal fragmentation.
Acknowledging that societal challenges and systemic flaws naturally lead to public agitations, Bhagwat stressed that even during intense emotional outbursts, actions must remain strictly within the bounds of the Constitution and the law. He underlined the importance of maintaining decorum, civility, and mutual respect in public discourse and behaviour.
He cautioned leaders and organisers against letting the temptation for electoral gain, cheap popularity, or short-term political mileage override conscience and goodwill. Bhagwat urged all stakeholders to prioritise constructive dialogue and institutional integrity over divisive agitation politics.
Emphasising that division leaves society vulnerable, Bhagwat noted that whenever communities fragment internally, they inherently grow weak. He stressed that historical setbacks and subjugation stemmed from internal fractures, underlining that a unified national consciousness is vital to safeguard India’s sovereignty and collective future.
Commemorating historical figures, Bhagwat highlighted the contributions of Bengal’s Rajnarain Bose, whose 200th birth anniversary is being observed. He recalled how Bose initiated traditional “Hindu Melas” utilising indigenous folk festivals (jartas) to foster a deep sense of cultural identity and public awakening among the masses.
The RSS chief paid tribute to the enduring legacy of Sant Ravidas. During periods marked by foreign invasions, widespread atrocities, and profound fear, Sant Ravidas anchored society through steadfast devotion, unyielding faith, and a strong message of social harmony. Bhagwat remarked that Sant Ravidas’s life serves as a guiding light that elevated public morale and offered solace during tumultuous times.
Highlighting India’s unique civilisational fabric, Bhagwat stated that Bharat Mata holds the highest place of reverence. While acknowledging the nation’s rich tapestry of diverse faiths, regions, languages, dietary habits, and cultural traditions, he insisted that collective unity is paramount.
He reiterated that India has progressed through solidarity in the past and must march forward with the same spirit. Additionally, he strongly advocated for the widespread adoption of Swadeshi (indigenous goods and systems).
Addressing contemporary social challenges, Bhagwat expressed serious concern over the rising prevalence of drug and substance abuse among the younger generation. Terming it a grave menace, he made an earnest appeal to parents and educators to actively guide, educate, and protect youth from falling victim to addiction.
The event was graced by several prominent personalities, including veteran journalist Sanjay Gupta as the chief guest, former Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, and Yaniv Revach, Consul General of Israel to Midwest India. They were joined by RSS Vidarbha Pramukh Sanghchalak Deepak Tamshetiwar, Sah-Sanghchalak Sridhar Gadge, and Nagpur Mahanagar Sanghchalak Rajesh Loya.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, state Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule, Rashtra Sevika Samiti Pramukh Sanchalika Shantakka, former MP Ajay Sancheti, MLA Parinay Fuke, and numerous other public representatives attended the ceremony. Notably, Chief Minister Fadnavis, Union Minister Gadkari, Bawankule, and Fuke participated while wearing the traditional RSS uniform.
