Delhi Police arrests Jora gang shooter wanted in Jhajjar extortion firing case

New Delhi, May 18 (IANS) The Delhi Police’s Special Cell has arrested a shooter linked to the Naveen Dabas alias Jora gang and wanted in connection with a firing incident at a medical store in Haryana’s Jhajjar district carried out for extortion purposes, officials said on Monday.

The accused, identified as Chirag alias Sachin, 22, a resident of Kharkhoda in Haryana’s Sonipat district, was apprehended by a joint team of the Special Cell’s Northern Range and STF units.

Police said a sophisticated semi-automatic pistol, along with four live cartridges, was recovered from his possession during the operation conducted in Delhi’s Rohini area.

According to the police, Chirag was an active shooter working for Dabas alias Jora, who is allegedly operating the gang network from Dubai.

Deputy Commissioner of Police, Special Cell, Narra Chaitanya said that Chirag, along with his associates Mohit alias Chand and Jatin, had allegedly opened fire at a medical store in Jhajjar on May 5 to extort money from the owner.

“After the firing incident, gangster Naveen Dabas alias Jora allegedly threatened the store owner over phone calls,” the DCP said.

Following the incident, Haryana Police registered an FIR under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Arms Act at City Police Station in Jhajjar.

During the investigation, Special Cell officials received specific intelligence inputs on May 12 regarding the movement of one of Jora gang’s shooters in Rohini carrying illegal weapons.

Acting on the tip-off, a raiding team led by Inspectors Mandeep and Jaibir, under the supervision of ACP Rahul Kumar Singh, laid a trap and apprehended Chirag.

Police said Chirag studied up to Class 10 and had earlier worked at a general store in Kharkhoda between 2020 and 2022. During this period, he reportedly came in contact with Dabas through social media applications with the help of his associate Mohit alias Chand.

Investigators revealed that after Mohit and Jatin were arrested by Haryana Police in the extortion firing case, Chirag remained absconding and stayed in touch with the gangster. He was allegedly instructed by Jora to move to Delhi and wait for further instructions. However, he has been arrested by the Special Cell.
