CM Vijay pays tribute to fallen police personnel, hails force’s tireless service on commemoration day

Chennai, Oct 21 (IANS) Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay on Wednesday paid tribute to police personnel who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty, praising the force for working tirelessly to protect citizens and maintain peace and public order.
In a social media message marking Police Commemoration Day, CM Vijay described the police as a protective bulwark of the nation and said their commitment deserved recognition and appreciation.
He recalled the sacrifice of 10 Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel who died defending the country at the Ladakh border in 1959. Their sacrifice, he said, remained a significant chapter in the history of service to the nation.
“On Police Commemoration Day, which honours their historic sacrifice, we salute all police personnel who laid down their lives while performing the noble duty of maintaining peace and law and order across the country,” CM Vijay said.
The Chief Minister highlighted the range of challenges faced by police personnel, including natural disasters, accidents, criminal activity and situations threatening public safety. He praised the courage, vigilance and dedication they demonstrated while responding to such emergencies.
His message recognised the demands of a profession that requires personnel to remain available beyond fixed working hours and respond whenever public safety is at risk.
CM Vijay said officers continued to discharge their responsibilities without watching the clock, often working without adequate rest. Their tireless efforts, he added, helped safeguard communities and uphold order.
Calling for remembrance of those who died while carrying out their duties, he urged people to honour their sacrifice and appreciate the service of serving personnel.
“Let us pay homage to the immortal martyrs who lost their lives in the discharge of duty and applaud the exemplary work of the police force, which serves tirelessly as the nation’s protective fortress,” he said.
The tribute brought together remembrance of fallen personnel and recognition of the everyday responsibilities shouldered by the force.
CM Vijay’s message placed particular emphasis on the readiness required of officers confronting unpredictable and dangerous situations. By referring to disaster response, accident emergencies and crime prevention alongside the maintenance of law and order, the Chief Minister underscored the breadth of police service.
He expressed appreciation for personnel whose sustained vigilance and commitment, he said, were central to protecting the public and preserving peace, while remembering those whose service had cost them their lives.
