BJP’s hat-trick in Assam is historic moment: Eknath Shinde

Guwahati, May 12 (IANS) Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Tuesday termed the BJP-led NDA’s victory in Assam Assembly elections as a “historic hat-trick”, asserting that the people voted overwhelmingly for development and the leadership of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

Speaking to reporters in Guwahati after Sarma took oath as Chief Minister for a second consecutive term, Shinde said there was an atmosphere of celebration across Assam. “There is a festive atmosphere in Assam today. Himanta Biswa Sarma taking the oath as Chief Minister was a moment of happiness for the people of the state. This is a historic hat-trick for the BJP-led NDA in Assam,” Shinde said.

Praising CM Sarma’s leadership, the Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister described him as a “dynamic and visionary leader” who accelerated infrastructure development and implemented several welfare initiatives in the state.

“He has worked as a dynamic and visionary leader. Infrastructure development has increased significantly, and many welfare schemes have been launched. Good work has been done in the health and education sectors, which is why the people have given him a landslide mandate,” he said.

Shinde further said the NDA’s massive electoral success reflected the people’s faith in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas” and his resolve to make India a global power.

“The people have trusted Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision and given a landslide mandate. Double-engine governments will now work faster for Assam’s development,” he added.

The Maharashtra leader also credited Union Home Minister Amit Shah for the NDA’s electoral strategy, saying the alliance’s victory in Assam reflected the success of his political planning.

The BJP-led NDA registered a sweeping victory in the recently concluded Assam Assembly elections, paving the way for Sarma to continue as Chief Minister.

Himanta Biswa Sarma took oath as the Chief Minister of the state for a second consecutive term, as the BJP-led NDA formed the government in Assam for the third straight time. Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya administered the oath of office and secrecy to Sarma at a grand swearing-in ceremony held at Khanapara in Guwahati in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and several top BJP and NDA leaders.

Along with Sarma, four Ministers were also sworn in. Former Union Minister Rameswar Teli, Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) President Atul Bora, United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL) leader Charan Boro and senior BJP leader Ajanta Neog took oath as Ministers.
