Bihar: Three killed, eight injured in Samastipur road accident

Patna, June 18 (IANS) A tragic road accident claimed three lives and left eight others injured in Bihar’s Samastipur district on Thursday after an auto‑rickshaw and a motorcycle collided head‑on in the Vibhutipur police station area.

The accident occurred on the Singhiaghat‑Harichak road between Khoksaha and Khadiyahi Chowk near the Basera Bad intersection. According to police and local sources, the collision was so severe that 11 people sustained injuries.

With the assistance of local residents and police personnel, all the injured were rushed to the Vibhutipur Community Health Centre. Doctors declared two victims dead on arrival: Raj Kumar Mahto (55), a resident of Ward No. 5 in Vibhutipur, and his wife Sanyogita Devi (45). A third victim, Hareram Sahani (59), who was boarded on an auto and a resident of Aamsaur village under Khanpur police station limits, later succumbed to his injuries during treatment.

Preliminary information indicates that nine women from Aamsaur village were travelling in a hired auto‑rickshaw to take a holy dip in the Ganges when the accident occurred. At the same time, Raj Kumar Mahto was heading towards his agricultural fields on a motorcycle with his wife riding pillion.

Dr Tushant, who was on duty at the Community Health Centre, said Geeta Devi, wife of Arun Sahani of Aamsaur village, was referred to Samastipur Sadar Hospital after first aid because of her critical condition. Other injured persons identified include Pavitri Devi, Phul Shankar Devi, Tetri Devi, Sudha Devi, Amerika Devi, Sita Devi and Mamta Devi.

The accident triggered scenes of panic and grief as local residents rushed to help the victims. Family members of both the deceased and the injured reached the spot and the hospital after receiving information.

Police reached the accident site shortly after receiving information and have launched an investigation into the circumstances that led to the collision. The bodies of the deceased have been sent to Samastipur Sadar Hospital for post‑mortem examinations.

Rosera DSP Sanjay Kumar confirmed that three people lost their lives in the accident and that the injured are undergoing treatment. He said both damaged vehicles have been seized, and further investigation is underway.
