Assam CM highlights emerging sectors, urges youth to prepare for future job market

Guwahati, June 18 (IANS) Assam Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, on Thursday urged students and young job-seekers to prepare for emerging employment opportunities, identifying semiconductors, Artificial Intelligence (AI), green energy and advanced manufacturing as key sectors that are expected to drive the state’s future job market.

In a post on social media platform X, Sarma addressed students whose Class 12 examination results have recently been declared and encouraged them to plan their careers in line with the changing economic landscape.

“Your Class 12 results are declared and you are planning your next career move? Here are key sectors which will shape the job market in Assam in the coming days. The opportunities will be limitless, make sure you are ready to grab it,” the Chief Minister wrote.

Along with the post, Sarma shared an infographic titled ‘Preparing Assam’s Youth for What’s Next’, outlining the sectors that the state government believes will generate significant employment opportunities in the coming years.

According to the infographic, the semiconductor sector is expected to create new opportunities in chip manufacturing and related industries, marking a first for the region.

Assam has emerged as a major destination for semiconductor investments following the establishment of the Tata Electronics semiconductor assembly and test facility at Jagiroad in Morigaon district.

The Chief Minister also highlighted AI as a rapidly expanding field that would open up technology and data-driven career opportunities for young professionals.

Green energy, including solar, hydro and clean power projects, was identified as another sector with strong employment potential.

Advanced manufacturing, which encompasses skilled factory operations and modern production roles, was also listed among the sectors likely to drive future job creation.

The post comes as the Assam government continues to focus on industrialisation, skill development and investment promotion to create employment opportunities for the state’s growing youth population.

Officials have repeatedly emphasised that ongoing investments in technology, manufacturing and infrastructure projects are expected to transform Assam into a major employment hub in the Northeast.
