Army Commander Lt General Pratik Sharma reviews counter terrorism grid in South Kashmir

Srinagar, Sep 13 (IANS) Lieutenant General Pratik Sharma, Army Commander of Udhampur-headquartered Northern Command, has reviewed the counter terrorism grid in south Kashmir areas of Jammu and Kashmir.

Army’s Northern Command on Saturday on social media platform X said, “Lieutenant General Pratik Sharma, #ArmyCdrNC, reviewed the counter terrorism grid in #SouthKashmir, where he was briefed on the prevailing security scenario and operational preparedness.”

“The Army commander emphasised on adaptability, precision, sustained vigilance and #Synergy, the key enablers for successful & intelligence driven operations and rapid response to any emerging challenges.”

“During his interaction with the troops, he (Lieutenant General Sharma) appreciated their indomitable spirit and dedication towards keeping the region free of #Terror and ensuring peace and stability.”

Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) carry out coordinated anti-terrorist operations in Jammu and Kashmir and such operations are carried out in the most inhospitable forested areas of the Union Territory as well.

The Indian Army deployed 3,000 regular infantry troops (a brigade-level force) alongside 500 Para Special Forces commandos to the higher reaches and rugged terrains of the Jammu region.

This strategic reinforcement was executed to counter a spike in terrorist activities and to eliminate highly-trained foreign terrorists operating south of the Pir Panjal range.

The induction includes three infantry Battalions totaling about 3,000 soldiers, complemented by elite specialised Para Commandos.

The deployment heavily focuses on the dense forests, caves, and mountainous terrains of districts like Doda, Kathua, Poonch, Rajouri, and Kishtwar.

In tandem with these reinforcements, security forces have moved to establish Temporary Operating Bases in vulnerable higher reaches, while local police have integrated high-altitude combat units (such as the “Snow Leopards”) to maintain a constant presence where terrorists seek refuge.

The security Infrastructure in Jammu and Kashmir is a highly sophisticated, multi-layered grid governed by a mix of military, paramilitary, intelligence, and police agencies.

It is coordinated at the highest level by the unified headquarters chaired by the Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha.
