Akhilesh wants to do politics in name of madrasas, while insulting Muslims: Sajid Rashidi

Lucknow, Sep 29 (IANS) Muslim clerics on Tuesday hit out at Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav over his promises regarding the salary issues of madrasa teachers and stated that the promises will be believable only when the SP announces a Muslim as its Chief Ministerial face.

Lucknow, Sep 29 (IANS) Muslim clerics on Tuesday hit out at Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav over his promises on madrasa teachers’ salary issues, saying the promises will be believable only if the SP announces a Muslim as its Chief Ministerial face.

Akhilesh Yadav on Monday announced a series of promises ahead of the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, including steps to implement the Old Pension Scheme, improve the status of Shiksha Mitras, and clear pending salaries for madrasa teachers.

He said the status of Shiksha Mitras would be improved by granting them the same facilities as regular teachers, while issues concerning Sanskrit schools would also be resolved. He also promised to clear the long-pending salaries of teachers associated with modern madrasas.

Speaking to IANS, All India Imam Association President Maulana Sajid Rashidi accused the SP chief of doing politics in the name of madrasas, while “insulting Muslims”.

“You are pushing Muslims out of gatherings, insulting Muslims, removing them from their seats and seating others in their place, defaming maulanas, and refusing to give Muslims their share,” Rashidi said.

“Akhilesh Yadav wants to do politics in the name of madrasas. Do not do politics in the name of madrasas. A slogan and a point have been put before you that this time, make a Muslim the Chief Minister. Name a Muslim for the post of Chief Minister. Then we will understand that you are a well-wisher of Muslims. Do not do politics in the name of madrasas,” he added.

All India Muslim Jamaat President Maulana Shahabuddin Razvi also criticised Akhilesh Yadav and said that the community is “very frustrated” with the Samajwadi Party.

Speaking to IANS, Razvi said, “Akhilesh Yadav is living in an illusion that all the Muslims support him and that the SP will form a government in the state in 2027. However, the ground reality is that the Muslim community is very frustrated with the SP.”

The remarks come as the SP steps up preparations for the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections. The party has recently intensified its outreach and campaign activities ahead of the polls.
