Hyderabad Oct 28: What is happening in Hyderabad? Within roughly 24 hours, the Telangana Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has taken action in two separate bribery cases involving police personnel, raising serious concerns about corruption and accountability within the police department.

In the first case, the ACB on October 27 arrested Mirchowk Police Station Inspector M. Kondal Rao and Home Guard Abid Ali for allegedly demanding a bribe of ₹6 lakh and accepting ₹3 lakh as an initial payment. According to reports, the money was allegedly sought to close a case registered against the complainant’s father, prevent coercive action and provide assistance in the future. The ACB said the money was recovered from the home guard.

In another case reported today, on October 28, Banjara Hills Sub-Inspector Vijay was arrested for allegedly demanding ₹10 lakh from the owner of Fortune 99 Homes in connection with a cheating case. The complainant reportedly approached the ACB with evidence after the alleged demand continued.

The two cases, reported on consecutive days, have once again brought the issue of alleged corruption among law-enforcement personnel into focus. Police officers are entrusted with protecting citizens, enforcing the law and ensuring justice. Allegations that officials may have misused their positions for financial gain raise questions about public trust and the need for stronger internal accountability.

The ACB’s action demonstrates the importance of independent oversight and encouraging citizens to report alleged bribery without fear. However, the allegations against the officers must be established through due legal process.

With investigations underway, the cases have renewed calls for transparency, accountability and effective action against corruption within the police system.
