Cong sit-in at Jaipur Police Commissionerate enters 3rd day; Dotasra slips on stairs, injured

Jaipur, Oct 21 (IANS) The Congress party’s sit-in protest at the Jaipur Police Commissionerate entered its third day on Wednesday, with the party demanding the registration of a Zero FIR in the Ritu Barala case. State Congress President Govind Singh Dotasra sustained a leg injury during the protest, while Leader of Opposition Tikaram Jully accused the police administration of negligence and excessive restrictions.
The sit-in protest escalated tensions between party leaders and the police administration.
The situation intensified after State Congress President Govind Singh Dotasra slipped on the stairs and injured his leg. A medical team was called to assess his condition.
Leader of the Opposition Tikaram Jully held the police administration responsible for the circumstances, alleging that excessive restrictions and inadequate basic facilities had contributed to the situation. He also questioned the decision to keep washrooms locked within the premises.
Congress leaders expressed displeasure over the restrictions imposed on protesters, including the closure of the main gate, which reportedly caused difficulties for party leaders and workers. Former ministers Pratap Singh Khachariyawas and Krishna Poonia were also reportedly stopped at the gate. Jully questioned who would be held accountable for Dotasra’s injury and alleged that the police had failed to ensure adequate facilities for those participating in the peaceful demonstration.
Khachariyawas said party leaders had been staging a sit-in at the Commissionerate for more than 24 hours because no case had been registered over the alleged assault and mistreatment of young women.
He asserted that the party was entitled to seek legal action under Section 173(3) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), and added that Congress leaders were prepared to approach the court if necessary.
The protest centres on allegations of police mistreatment involving NSUI National Secretary Ritu Barala in Delhi. The Congress party is demanding that a Zero FIR be registered in Jaipur in connection with the matter. Dotasra, Jully and several senior Congress MLAs have been staging a sit-in at the Commissionerate since Monday night to press for their demand.
The police administration maintains that the incident occurred in Delhi, where a complaint has already been filed, and that the investigation is being handled there. Congress leaders have rejected this position and continued to demand the registration of a Zero FIR in Jaipur.
Tensions had already risen late Tuesday night after allegations emerged that police used force against Youth Congress workers protesting outside the Commissionerate. The Congress leaders claimed that several party workers were injured during the incident.
With the sit-in entering its third day and Dotasra sustaining an injury, the confrontation between the Congress leadership and the police administration has intensified. The party remains firm on its demand for a Zero FIR and has indicated that it may pursue legal remedies if its demands are not addressed.
