Shaggy wishes his ‘Libra brother’ Sting on his birthday

Mumbai, Oct 3 (IANS) Grammy-winning singer Shaggy wished his “Libra brother” and fellow music legend Sting on his birthday wishing him many more happy years ahead.

Shaggy took to Instagram, where he shared a picture of himself performing on stage with Sting. He wished the icon a “Happy Bornday” as Sting, whose real name is Gordon Matthew Thomas Sumner turned 75.

“Happy Bornday to my Libra brother … wishing you many more happy ones to come. @theofficialsting,” he wrote as the caption.

Sting was the lead vocalist, principal songwriter and bassist for the rock band the Police. He began a solo career in 1985, after leaving the Police, and has included elements of rock, jazz, reggae, classical, new-age, and worldbeat in his music.

He has sold a combined total of more than 100 million records as a solo artist and as a member of the Police. As a solo musician and as a member of the Police, Sting has received 17 Grammy Awards.

He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of the Police in 2003. Sting has received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame; the Ivor Novello Award for Lifetime Achievement from the British Academy of Songwriters, Composers and Authors.

Shaggy decided to pursue his music career and his first hit in 1993, “Oh Carolina”, was a dancehall remake of a ska hit by the Folkes Brothers, which appeared in the film Sliver.

The same year, Shaggy appeared on Kenny Dope’s hip hop album The Unreleased Project. He worked together with producers such as Sting International, Don One, Lloyd ‘Spiderman’ Campbell, Robert Livingston and Frankie Cutlass on the Maxi-Single title “Nice and Lovely” Hip Hop Remix. He had further big hits, including “Boombastic” in 1995.

More recently, Shaggy released his studio album Lottery. The 13-track project marked his first album of original, non-holiday material in several years and features collaborations with artists including Jeremih, Robin Thicke, Dexta Daps, Sting, and Anthony Hamilton.

In June 2026, Shaggy was included on the Official FIFA World Cup 2026 Album with the song “Love Always Wins”, a collaboration with Cimafunk and Zema. The track formed part of the official music rollout for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
