‘Sahi Khan-Paan, Swasth Rajasthan’ campaign to begin in Rajasthan from Oct 3-16

Jaipur, Oct 2 (IANS) The ‘Sahi Khan-Paan, Swasth Rajasthan’ campaign will be organised across Rajasthan from October 3-16 to raise awareness about safe, nutritious and healthy eating habits among the people.

The campaign will carry the message: ‘Eat Safe – Stay Healthy – Eat Local – Defeat Adulteration’.

The campaign is being organised under the direction of Rajasthan’s Medical and Health Department Principal Secretary, Gayatri Rathore.

Awareness activities will be conducted with the support of Food Safety Officers, mobile food testing laboratories, schools, colleges, hospitals and other institutions.

Food Safety and Drug Control Commissioner Avichal Chaturvedi said that activities under ‘Eat Right Day’ would be organised in schools on October 3 and 5.

Students will be made aware of healthy tiffins, Shri Anna (millets), handwashing and the importance of reading food labels.

On October 6 and 7, mobile food testing laboratories will demonstrate simple methods for detecting food adulteration and conduct on-the-spot testing of food samples.

On October 8 and 9, ‘Healthy Rajasthan – Healthy Thali Day’ will promote the reduced consumption of salt, sugar and oil while encouraging people to include local and nutritious foods in their diets.

Awareness programmes on reading labels on packaged food products will be conducted on October 11 and 12.

Chaturvedi said ‘Eat Right Campus’ activities would be organised at colleges, universities and hospitals on October 13 and 14.

The campaign will conclude with ‘Food Waste -Save Food Day’ activities on October 15 and 16, focusing on preventing food wastage.

The Food Safety and Drug Control Commissioner said that during the campaign, the public will also be sworn in to adopt a healthy lifestyle. This includes reading labels before purchasing packaged food, reducing the amount of salt, oil, and sugar in food, eating whole grains at least three days a week, engaging in yoga or physical exercise for at least 30 minutes daily, and not wasting food.
