Jaipur, Sep 26 (IANS) Three people, including two MBBS students, were killed and two others critically injured after a speeding car collided head-on with a trailer on the Debari-Amberi National Highway in Udaipur on Saturday afternoon.
The accident occurred around 3:30 p.m. near the Ramdevji Temple in the Pratapnagar police station area. Police said a Honda City travelling from Debari towards Amberi first hit a road divider after the driver apparently lost control.
The car then crossed into the opposite lane and collided with an oncoming trailer. The impact left the vehicle mangled, trapping its occupants inside.
Additional Superintendent of Police Umesh Ojha confirmed that all four occupants were MBBS students at Pacific Medical College in Umarda, Udaipur.
The deceased were identified as Uday Bansal, a resident of Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, and Ruchika Parihar, 25, from Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh. Police said a third person also died in the crash.
The injured include Shashank Singh, son of Lakshminarayan and a resident of Haryana, who sustained serious injuries and was admitted to a private hospital. Another female student travelling in the car was also critically injured. Police said efforts were underway to confirm the identity of the third deceased person and the injured woman.
Residents and police worked together to extricate the victims from the wreckage. The bodies of the deceased were taken to the mortuary, while the two critically injured were rushed to hospital. Their condition was reported to be serious.
The accident caused significant traffic disruption on the highway, with vehicles queuing on both sides. Police deployed a crane to remove the wrecked car and trailer from the road, restoring traffic flow after clearing the scene.
Preliminary investigation suggests the car lost control, struck the divider, and entered the opposite lane before colliding with the trailer. Police have launched a probe into the incident.
