New Delhi, Sep 17 (IANS) As part of Lieutenant Governor T.S. Sandhu’s push to promote Delhi as a sustainable tourism and socio-cultural hub, the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) will organise a two-day World Tourism Day celebration on September 26 and 27 at Baansera on the Yamuna banks, an official said on Thursday.
The celebration will showcase the diversity of India’s tourism, art, craft, cuisine, music and culture, the official said in a statement.
The tourism day celebration at Baansera will also ensure that the people of Delhi get closer to their river and own it — an aim that has been consistently pushed for by the Lieutenant Governor, it said.
The celebration will feature six specially curated thematic zones — Hunar Gali, Yaadon Ki Gali, Bachpan Ki Dukaan, Chitthi Ghar, Bharat Ke Zaayeke and Masti Ka Adda — offering visitors a mix of traditional crafts, regional cuisines, nostalgia-based experiences and participative activities.
Music, folk and regional cultural performances, magic shows and other activities will add to the festive atmosphere.
The event will culminate with live Qawwali performance by Nizami Brothers on evening of September 27, for which the DDA has tied up with ticketing platform BookMyShow.
Over the years, Baansera has evolved beyond being a recreational green space into a vibrant venue for some of Delhi’s prominent cultural, recreational and public events.
Baansera, the Delhi Development Authority’s unique bamboo-themed public space along the Yamuna at Sarai Kale Khan, is steadily emerging as an important cultural, tourism and event destination of the national capital, hosting a growing calendar of national, international and public events encompassing art, music, literature, food, traditional crafts, recreation and environmental awareness
The venue has hosted three editions of the International Kite Festival, bringing together national and international kite artists along with cultural performances and large-scale public participation.
Baansera has also hosted Rangratri, a Garba and Dandiya celebration that brought traditional music, dance and festive culture to its distinctive bamboo landscape.
