CEC Gyanesh Kumar to visit Gujarat on Sept 10-11, focus on electoral transparency
Gandhinagar, Sep 9 (IANS) Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar will undertake his first visit to Gujarat as the head of the Election Commission of India on September 10 and 11, with interactions with Booth Level Officers (BLOs), Electoral Literacy Club (ELC) members and citizens planned around the theme of “Transparency from Roll to Poll”.
Kumar, who took charge as the 26th Chief Election Commissioner in February last year, will begin his two-day visit by paying tribute to Mahatma Gandhi at Sabarmati Ashram.
He will then visit the historic Adalaj Stepwell as part of a programme introducing him to Gujarat’s cultural heritage.
On the evening of September 10, CEC Kumar is scheduled to visit the Ahmedabad Management Association (AMA) premises, where he will interact with citizens on “Conducting Elections in India – The World’s Largest Democracy”.
On September 11, the CEC will interact with more than 500 BLOs from across the state at Atal Kalam Hall at Gujarat University.
The programme is intended to focus on the role of grassroots election officials in maintaining transparency in the electoral process.
CEC Kumar will later interact with more than 1,000 members of Electoral Literacy Clubs at the AUDA Auditorium in Shela.
The programme will include an introduction to the vision, mission and key features of the recently launched ELC 2.0.
The Election Commission has been promoting ELCs as platforms for familiarising young citizens with electoral processes and democratic values.
An information session on ECINET, the Election Commission’s one-stop digital platform for election-related information and services, will also be held.
ECINET was launched by the Commission in January this year and is available in 22 scheduled languages, besides English.
Senior Election Commission officials will provide technical and media-related guidance during the programmes through PowerPoint presentations.
They include Director General (Media) Ashish Goyal, Director General (IT) Seema Khanna, Director Shubhra Saxena and Deputy Director (Media) Apoorva Kumar Singh.
The interactions have been planned by the office of Gujarat Chief Electoral Officer Sandeep Sagale to communicate Gyanesh Kumar’s emphasis on “Transparency from Roll to Poll” and provide direct engagement with officials involved in electoral work and voter awareness.
